How to tell if you purchased a Hp Genuine Toner Cartridge
and What To look For:

Toner Packaging
All Original HP LaserJet print cartridge boxes have an HP security label. It is featured on all HP LaserJet print cartridge boxes for HP LaserJet and HP Color LaserJet printing systems. If you see these boxes without a security label, you have reason to be suspicious. The label is positioned over the tear strip of the laser print cartridge box and has the words 'ORIGINAL TONER' on it.
Two versions of the security label may be found on HP toner packaging that is currently in the market. The dark blue security label shown below and on the right is currently applied to most packaging, although the light blue security label shown on the left will eventually replace the darker blue security label and may currently be found on some packaging. Both versions of the label will be on packaging in the market through 2010. The images and instructions below highlight what you should look for in the HP security label to ensure that you are purchasing a genuine HP cartridge. Only buy cartridges with labels that perform as described below.
New Toner Seal To identify a genuine seal: 1.  Tilt box front to back to see "OK" and "" move in opposite directions. 2.  Tilt box right to left to see color change.		Old Toner Seal To identify a genuine seal: 1.  Look for the color switching security seal. 2.  Turn the box from side to side and see the color switch. 3.  When the background is dark, half of the lettering "ORIGINAL TONER" will be light and vice versa.
Ink Packaging
FEW Original HP inkjet print cartridge boxes feature an HP security label in North America. If you do not find a security label on ink packaging in North America do not assume that the cartridge is counterfeit as most inkjet cartridge boxes do not contain an HP security label.
Two versions of the security label may be found on HP ink packaging that is currently in the market. The light blue security label shown below and on the left is HP's newest label and appears on HP's new black ink cartridge packaging. The dark blue security label show below and on the right appears on HP's blue and white ink cartridge packaging. Until supplies of the blue and white packaging with the dark blue security label are depleted in 2010, both box and label combinations described above may be found simultaneously in the market. The images and instructions below highlight what you should look for in the HP security label to ensure that you are purchasing an Original HP Print cartridge.

Step 2: Check the price

HP does not temporarily offer deep discounts on its cartridges nor does it offer "factory seconds". If a vendor is offering prices that are much better than those offered by a recognized HP retailer or distributor, you should be suspicious that the cartridge may be counterfeit.

Step 3: Examine the packaging

•	Non-standard packaging and packaging that appears to have been opened or damaged can be an indicator that the cartridge is counterfeit. HP does not sell cartridges in bulk or without the appropriate packaging.
•	HP does not knowingly authorize the sale of packaging which is damaged or of poor quality.
Step 4: Examine the print cartridge upon opening the packaging
•	Original HP print cartridges are always delivered unused. There should be no damage, no ink or toner dust on the body of the cartridge, no significant scratches or any signs of previous use on the print cartridge itself.
•	All pull tabs should remain unbroken.
•	Poor or inconsistent print quality is a primary indicator of non-original products.
Step 5: Only purchase from reputable resellers and retailers
To protect yourself from counterfeit cartridges, only buy from reputable resellers and retailers. Be suspicious of any extraordinary sales offers.
